Cathy Harrington, LMHC

Sometimes people face challenges that seem impossible to overcome, no matter how hard they try. Maybe old coping strategies aren't working anymore, or maybe it's hard to know where to start. Without help addressing these challenges, folks might experience difficult changes in their relationships, mood, productivity, or even ability to feel fulfilled by things that used to bring contentment or joy. These experiences might be a natural part of the human experience, but they do not have to be faced alone.

Counseling is a process which promotes growth and healing through a safe relationship with a counselor and gentle exploration of one's own internal experience. My goal as counselor is to help you connect with your own strength and inner light, no matter how dim it might feel. I strive to create a safe space for people to explore their inner world without judgment or embarrassment. I approach counseling with humility, compassion, and a little bit of humor. I view you as the expert in your life and use the counseling process to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your world, which can help you to reach your goals.

I also view counseling as one tool we can use to advocate for broader social progress. By learning to understand ourselves more deeply we create space to improve our relationships and the way we interact with the world. These changes ripple outwards into our environments, often in ways we might not expect or even notice, but they are impactful nonetheless.

I enjoy working with adults who have experienced trauma and want to understand how it impacts their daily experiences. I also love working with people who are discriminated against because of identities they hold, and I recognize that this discrimination impacts every area of life and creates unique challenges. I strive to provide anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ affirming care for all my clients. Ultimately, I work with people who are having a hard time and need some therapeutic support. If this sounds like you, please reach out. I'd love to join with you on your healing journey.
